KALANGALA | FISHERMEN | DROWN

Residents of Kanyogoga village in Kalangala Town Council are in shock following the deaths of two of their friends while on a fishing trip in Lake Victoria.

The deceased include Gerald Mutebi and Ronald Ssemambo. It’s alleged that the two went fishing at the Kisoko landing site on Tuesday morning; however, residents discovered late in the evening that they had not returned, even though they always did.

Alex Mayanja, one of the residents, said that they discovered too late that heavy rainfall accompanied by wind could have blown their boat, causing the drowning in Lake Victoria.

“Earlier today morning the search operation started where we have managed to recover their bodies and burial arrangements have commenced.,” said Mayanja.

Police have warned fishermen about the changing weather currently on Lake Victoria and appealed to them to always wear life jackets that would help save their lives.

Ssemambo left behind six children by two wives, while Mutebi had no children.
