The agriculture ministry has handed over more than 900,000 doses of foot-and-mouth disease vaccine worth sh7b to 22 districts in the cattle corridor.

The doses were officially handed over to district representatives in Kampala on Friday, November 18.

"The Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries has officially handed over 903,200 doses of foot and mouth disease to district representatives,” tweeted agriculture minister Frank Tumwebaze.

The foot-and-mouth disease is a major cause of quarantine in Uganda, and it affects cloven-hoofed animals, including cattle, sheep, goats and pigs.

Its transmission is facilitated by, among other things, mixing animals at common grazing grounds, interaction with man and wild animals and their movement from place to place.

The types and sub-types of the disease are so different from each other that each warrants its specific vaccine.
