Apac District Local Government says it needs sh3.88b (3.88 billion shillings) for the construction of the district council hall.

The district has been renting a building for its council hall since it became operational 49 years ago.

District speaker Peter Obong Acuda said they earmarked sh400m (400 million shillings) for the project in the current financial year (2023/24) and that they are sourcing for the remaining balance to be able to kickstart the construction.

Paul Muboki, who is the district's deputy chief administrative officer, said that a while ago, the President pledged to support the district with funds to construct its council hall, a pledge he said that has yet to be fulfilled.

Muboke said the district was unable to follow up on the pledge since it did not have the architectural design of the building.

The district, however, presented the architectural design of the council hall to the stakeholders in the district on Wednesday (July 5).

Apac district vice-chairperson Tony Jasper Odongo said with the design of the building already in place, they will start a massive fundraising drive to realize the funds needed for the project.
