Head of State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SHACU) Brig. Gen. Henry Isoke has called for increased participation of people with disabilities (PWDs) in the corruption fight.

Isoke says corruption cannot be fought by anti-graft agencies alone and that participation of all groups including PWDs can make a remarkable difference.

He was speaking at the National Leadership Institute (NALI) in Kyankwanzi district as he made a presentation to 326 PWD leaders from greater north and western regions of Uganda that are undergoing training.

Anchoring his message on transparency and accountability of government projects at LC level, Isoke advised the leaders to be exemplary and use the knowledge gained from the training to come up with creative ways to fight corruption.

He urged them to become government's champions in the fight against the rising cases of selling of jobs in district service commissions, noting that his organisation was ready to arrest and charge the culprits in court if presented with evidence.

According to a 2021 report released by the Inspectorate of Government, Uganda loses sh20 trillion every year through corruption.

The report indicates that sh131b is lost through taxation, user fees on utilities (sh459b) forfeited revenue from natural resources (sh820b ), bungled enforcement leading to environmental degradation (sh15b), absenteeism, absenteeism in government departments (sh2b), corruption in provision of health care and education services (sh 451b), graft in security provision (sh86b), procurement and budgeting regulation (sh 233b).
