Dead students named after truck crashes into Kasaka Secondary School

Police have named the three students killed after a truck rammed into the fence of a school in Gomba district and ploughed into a building on Tuesday afternoon.

The deadly crash at Kasaka Senior Secondary left students, teachers and parents distraught.

Eighteen students survived with injuries, said Faridah Nampiima, the Traffic and Road Safety public relations officer.

The Sino truck (UBL 790J) crashed into the school at around 3:30 pm.

Nampiima identified the dead students as Evelyn Namagembe (Senior Five), Hilda Asege (Senior Four) and Bosco Mawanda (Senior Two).

“We have arrested the truck driver, a one Abudala Wanume, aged 26," she added.

Basing on eyewitness accounts, Nampiima said the truck lost control and rammed into the school's fence.

It then hurtled down and crashed into the computer laboratory, which was occupied by students at the time. Three of them died and 18 others got seriously injured.

Police said they would share more details on the accident.
