Spanish journalist, driver killed in Kiryandongo accident

Two people were on Monday evening killed in a motor accident at Chopelwo valley in Kiryandongo district after a head-on collision.

Faridah Nampiima the Police’s traffic and road safety public relations officer identified the two as Sadurni Carrasco Sumaya a Spanish journalist working with the International Press Association of Kampala and her driver Thomas Mugisha.

"The Police at Chopelwo valley along the Kampala-Gulu highway in Kiryandongo district registered a head-on collision accident, that claimed the lives of two people. The accident happened on Monday at around 8:30 pm," Nampiima said.

She noted that the accident involved a Fuso truck motor vehicle registration number UAL 192U and a Toyota Rav4 UAS 597U. 

"The driver of RAV4, Mugisha aged 42, and his passenger one Carrasco, aged 33, died on the spot, while the other driver escaped after the accident, and efforts are underway to have him arrested," Nampiima added.

Nampiima said the bodies of the deceased had been conveyed to Kiryandongo Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.
